Here is just one example of how to do this with power point I like the power point solution because then anyone can create media content, because they already know how to create ppt presentations today. I like the media signage solution because you can embed multiple feeds and content streams into one media broadcast. From a central location you can change the media content on all or just one screen.
The decision for you is to decide who will create the content and what type of presence you want. Will the signage be customer facing, employee facing or both. And FREE! I looked into that one but unless I am missing something there is no way to do an 'in house' version. You have to connect to their servers to do it. Xibo has a server client that you install on your own server and that's what my boss is looking for. Ubuntu is an open source operating system with the intention of supplying an. Most applications written for Windows have not been ported with Linux,. Ubuntu is the OS of choice for MediaSignage as we are advocates of free software. NoviSign’s digital signage software is designed in ‘layers’ from a basic image/video campaign, up to multi mixtures of images, videos, scrolling static text, slideshows, news tickers, weather, clock, RSS feeds and more. Xibo has a server client that you install on your own server and that's what my boss is looking for.Just be aware that media signage also has an in house version. You can purchase the media signage server software and install it on your own windows server (I think it was less than $1000 USD). Before making a final decision I would compare the utility between the two solutions (xibo and media signage). The issues you will run into with any solution is who will maintain the content and can you include third party content into your sigage soltuion to keep your video stream fresh, otherwise people will only look at it every once an a while. FWIW you can also get a PPT to flash converter so you could insert PPT content into your video stream. Both solutions are pretty flexible.
One last bit of content is the display terminals you can look towards a micro PC like to or the which will mount on a vesa bracket. Note with the players you don't need to run them under windows. Other OS' are supported depending on the solution selected.

We already have a full setup with micro PC's running a digital signage program but my boss is trying to eliminate the $100 per month program we are using (it's extremely buggy). So setup is no problem, just looking for a replacement program. LWBM wrote: We use this across our centers.
Pretty awesome. And FREE!This is really cool. We have done everything in house, but our setup only runs through jpgs.
Ive wanted to get something going that supports videos, so this could work. The only thing i'm trying to figure out, our system displays reports off of our SQL server. I saw it supports a URL page. If we put the reports we need onto our webpage would i be able to display the reports through 'digitalsignage.' I hope i'm asking the question, in a clear way. This is possible, you just enter a local URL into the timeline. If you have confidential data I would use a combination of the cloud controller to manage the session then reference local content so your confidential information is not stored in the cloud somewhere.
Under the this site: look for Resources-External Resources to get an idea what you can do. In this case external is in reference to media signage.
